The Trailblazer is a compact crossover in every implication of that segment name. But it’s surprisingly well-outfitted and designed, making it far from being just a “cheap compact.” The new Trailblazer was introduced last year and has already made a mark for itself as a popular compact crossover. This year, a couple of things shuffle around as to what’s available for the Trailblazer, but it’s otherwise still a solid choice in the compact segment.

When Lexus debuted the LC in 2018, it was visually breathtaking. Soon, a convertible and hybrid model were unveiled and, eventually, some tuning and suspension changes to match the car’s showroom looks and powerful V8.  The LC 500 is a 2+2 sports coupe or convertible grand tourer that has become the flagship of what Lexus designers can do. It’s not a performance car, per se, but it toes the line as if it might be, if you really want it to be. The Lexus LC 500 Convertible is by far the most beautiful and satisfying car we’ve driven this year.

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Chrysler unveiled a new battery-electric concept car, recalling the Airflow name. Alongside the car, Chrysler announced plans to launch its first fully electric vehicle by 2025 and to have a full portfolio of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) by 2028, and will spearhead parent company Stellantis’ EV transformation.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class was fully redesigned for 2021. With a new tech-based interior full of luxurious comfort, two powerful engine options, and more of what makes Mercedes the Benz of motoring, the new S Class keeps moving the benchmark set by its previous generations.

It’s a new year and time once again to look back on our favorite test drives. 2021 was a great year and saw a lot of 2021 and 2022 models that really shined. We’re picking favorites based on both our enjoyment and how surprisingly good the vehicle is compared to its peers.

The 2022 GV70 has a well-balanced powertrain, upper-tier interior, and large cargo space. With classy styling, a surprisingly low price tag, and unique appeal, it’s easy to overlook the very few faults found in the GV70.

The last time we looked at a Lexus LX 570 was in 2014 when it was fresh off yet another Baja 1000 rally win. Since then, the LX has seen a handful of changes, including a two-row seating option that came in 2018 and some body changes to bring it to current Lexus expectations. For the most part, however, the winning formula introduced in 2008 hasn’t been changed much. 

The Subaru Outback is the most-identifiable “wagon crossover” on the market. It’s the vehicle most people think of when ideas of cars as sport utilities are mentioned. The current-generation Outback was introduced in 2020 as the sixth-generation of the car with a host of updates and changes, including more interior room and better infotainment. For 2022, Subaru introduced the Wilderness edition. The Wilderness adds some off-road upgrades to the Outback, including almost an inch of suspension lift and more aggressive all-terrain tires. We expect the Wilderness name to be used as the “off-road-ready” branding on other Subaru products in the future. 

The Nissan Armada has been Nissan’s largest sport utility for years. This current generation, which debuted in 2017, is the best selling yet and features all of the things big SUV buyers want. For 2021, the Armada got some styling updates, a larger touchscreen, and more standard safety features. These carry over to 2022.

Whereas most Mini models are really just lumbering imitators of the original, the Mini Hardtop in its two-door glory is the most Mini of Minis. The 2022 model year brings a few design changes and upgrades, as we discovered for ourselves.

Toyota made several updates to the Camry for the 2021 model year and the new Camry Hybrid got more than any other. Most of the updates are to styling and technology, but the hybrid model also gets a new sport variant. The five-seat Camry sedan is the midsized flagship in the automaker’s lineup and the hybrid adds efficiency as a bonus.

Infiniti has introduced two all-new luxury crossover sport utilities to the market for 2022. The QX55 is based on the QX50 small crossover, but it adds a coupe style to the look and re-tunes the engine and transmission for a more responsive feel to go with the sportier exterior. The QX60 is a new generation of the midsized three-row with nicer looks, an improved engine, and a stronger transmission.

Hyundai introduced the Elantra Hybrid model for 2021 as competition for the growing number of hybrid sedans hitting showrooms. The Korean automaker greatly improved the Elantra in this generation and the hybrid model adds considerable fuel economy gains at an affordable starting price. Above-average safety scores and best-in-class warranties don’t hurt either.

The Audi SQ5 is the sportier model in the Q5 compact crossover lineup. It has seating for five, a wagon-like sportback design, and plenty of get-up under its hood. Highlights for the 2021 SQ5 Sportback include a well-done infotainment system, lively handling characteristics, and some updates to exterior styling versus the 2020 model. The 2022 Audi SQ5 Sportback will be much the same as the 2021 model.

If Toyota is known for anything, it’s hybrids. The Prius is synonymous with the term and Toyota has more hybrids in its lineup than any other automaker. The Corolla Hybrid is a step up from the Prius in terms of style and interior appeal, but how much of a step is subjective.

The Land Rover Discovery is what people envision when picturing an off-road vehicle. Second only perhaps to Jeep for its storied prowess as a go-anywhere machine, the Discovery is the safari vehicle of choice. The current-generation Discovery rolled out in 2017 with a modern take that finds that balance between daily drive road manners and off-road excellence. 

Ford unveiled the current generation F-150 for the 2021 model year to much expectation. Out was the slow-selling diesel option and in was a new hybrid powertrain that offered all of the capability of the regular truck with several added bonuses. After a week with the F-150 Powerboost, we think it’s the best pickup truck for people who actually work with their trucks.

This review is of the all-new 2022 QX60, Infiniti’s three-row crossover-SUV. Everything has changed and all of it for the better with this new QX60.

With the Subaru WRX having gone sedan-only and the Volkswagen GTI and R seemingly on their final tour, Toyota has decided to save the hot hatch market with a Corolla-based hatchback. Born from rally racing, the Corolla GR features adjustable all-wheel drive, a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, and a year’s membership in the National Auto Sport Association with driving instruction.

Subaru has finally begun producing the fifth generation of its WRX sport sedan. One of the most popular and enthusiast-loved cars in Subaru’s lineup, the WRX divides opinion every time it sees changes ... and love it or hate it, this new-gen WRX is no different.

When the Land Rover Defender debuted for 2020, it was an immediate focus of polarization. Many people loved it for its nostalgic nod and modern accoutrements. Many others hated it for those same reasons. We fall into the former camp, happy that the 2022 model remembers its roots while providing for today’s expectations.

The Nissan Frontier has been a small-truck staple since it replaced the Hardbody small pickup back in the day. Its primary attribute, compared to other small trucks on the market, has always been its undeniable "doin’ truck stuff" attitude. The Frontier never got civilized, didn’t become "refined," and is still the rough-and-tumble, lovable pickup it's always been.

The 2022 Toyota Prius hasn’t changed much from last year’s version. Toyota dropped the “2020 Edition” trim name from last year and renamed it “Nightshade.” There are otherwise no significant changes to the car. It’s capable of getting more than 50 mpg, has great visibility from all angles, and is a mostly-convenient hatchback in design. There are, however, a few downsides as well.

The 2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid is one of two hybrid options for the Escape this year, offering most of the goodness of the compact Escape, but with better efficiency. Both hybrid models use the same engine and transmission, the one with a plug just adds more battery and slightly more power.

Hyundai’s small two-row crossover has been newly-redesigned for 2022, bringing some dramatic changes including a far more eye-catching exterior, a more dynamic presence, and two hybrid options alongside conventional gasoline.

The Honda Pilot is a popular three-row SUV known for its robust nature and thoughtful interior. It resides in a segment that is full of top-shelf rivals with excellent merits of their own. Yet it continues to sell well against newer rivals. Its roomy interior, versatile nature, and good fuel economy are all high points.

The Subaru Outback is known primarily for its station wagon design, ample interior space, go-anywhere attitude, and upscale feel. Considered the flagship for the Subaru lineup for many consumers, the Outback fits a niche that others have tried to copy and rarely match. But that’s changing as automakers up their game and become more competitive.

The Lexus RX has been around for a while and its hybrid model has been an offering since it debuted in 2006. The RX 400h was the first luxury hybrid model on the road and the 2022 450h is the latest and most excellent rendition of it so far. The current generation of the RX came on the scene in 2016 and saw a few updates a year or so ago. The 2022 model year brings back the limited edition Black Line for those wanting a little more panache in their ride.

The theme of the 2022 Chicago Auto Show could best be summed up as "we're back ... and it's electric!" Despite being half the size it usually is, thanks to the pandemic, this year's show is still well worth seeing with a range of interesting concepts and production options from manufacturers on display, including plugins aplenty.

The X3 is the small but not compact SUV in BMW's lineup, sitting above the diminutive X1 and below the more family-sized X5. Because of its size, the X3 fits in the area where most sporty, right-sized, and fuel-efficient sport utilities land. And it's all that.

While the concept was edgy and clearly unrealistic for the real world, it set the tone for the production Santa Cruz that would follow. This production version delivers on the promise of fun, good design, and style.

Ram has figured out a lot of the ergonomics and styles that truck buyers like and integrated them into its trucks with success. The Ram 1500 was introduced in its current generation in 2019. For 2022, Ram made a handful of small changes to the truck, such as adding the Uconnect 5 infotainment upgrade and two new trim packages.

The Mercedes-Benz GLB Class is the often-overlooked entry-level luxury sport utility from the German automaker that deserves more attention than it gets. It’s a well-designed Merc that checks most of the boxes for the segment. The GLB is spacious, comfortable, technologically rich, and engaging to drive. Its only downside is cost once add-ons are selected from the options list. But for the money spent, it’s better than most entry-level luxury options competing with it.

The Subaru BRZ, and its twin the Toyota 86, has been redesigned as a second generation of the entry-level sports car. Its engine is now Subaru’s 2.4-liter, and the interior gets a little more upscale and driver-focused ... but the car’s "starter race car kit" motif remains intact.

The debate over electric vehicle (EV) adoption is ongoing and very politicized. The how, when, and (inevitably) the who are hot topics. Yet the question isn’t just about us. Wyoming has a $4 billion per year tourism industry. An industry that’s growing as more and more travelers come here to vacation. Electric vehicle adoption will most certainly affect us through them.

Lexus has unveiled a new all-electric vehicle model, the RZ. The luxury brand will offer the RZ to the global market, and its underpinnings will likely be the basis of more EV models to come. It's the first of Lexus’ planned electric vehicles, with a goal of all Lexus offerings being EV's by 2035.

The BMW 2 Series was introduced just a few years ago, as a compact sports option for luxury buyers looking for an entry level option. In 2022, almost appropriately, the 2 Series begins its second generation. The rhyme writes itself.

Kia has pulled covers off the second-generation Niro, showcasing a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric model in New York. The new Niro is roomier, more efficient, and includes more technology than its predecessor.

Jeep has unveiled new, longer-wheelbase L models of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer sport utilities. These largest of Jeeps are now 12 inches (30.5 cm) longer. Also unveiled were new turbocharged engine options.

Volkswagen and its luxury arm Audi are mostly known for their austere interiors and contemporary, trend-setting styling. Masters of Teutonic design, VW and Audi often feature interiors with little or no adornment and exteriors where a lack of panache is actually a design element unto itself. The 2022 Audi Q3 features all of that tradition combined with a reasonable price tag, fast pace, and solid mix of functional technology.

The 2022 model year marks the 11th generation of the Honda Civic. Completely rethought for the new-gen, the Civic keeps with its previous penchant for “fun in the first 10” and daily driving affordability.

Memes, clickbait, and other information fodder on the internet are full of “tips” for saving at the pump. With gas prices being so high, it’s no wonder these are a hot topic and prime targets for getting your attention. But most of those tips are wrong. Some are so far gone, they’re not even fertilizer anymore. But rather than just debunk the clickbait manure, we should also look at the ones that do have some merit. So here’s a little bit of both.

The Toyota Sienna minivan was completely revamped for the 2021 model year and is now a hybrid by default. Other changes to the van include some interior upgrades, more window views, and an easier to use cargo space. The Sienna still has available all-wheel drive as well.

The world of heavy-duty trucks is full of extreme capabilities and huge footprints, such as those of Chevrolet's 2022 Silverado 2500. It's a pickup truck in the 3/4-ton arena that can tow up to 18,500 lb (8,391 kg), and is offered in a variety of configurations.
