Making a name for itself as a well-sized, maneuverable, small crossover, the Ford Edge has been a winning design for the automaker. It hits a sweet spot for many buyers, though the segment is now crowded with very good options, requiring Ford to make some updates to the Edge to stay relevant. The Ford Edge entered its second generation in 2015 and sees a refresh of that for 2019. The update includes more dynamic front and rear styling, a new transmission, more standard features, and the changing of the Sport moniker with ST. The Edge is a smooth ride with lots of interior space and fuel efficiency. The 2019 Ford Edge is a midsize crossover that seats five. There are four trim levels, starting with the SE and moving through the SEL, Titaniun, and ST. There are two engine options for the 2019 Edge, depending on model choice, and this year Ford debuts a new eight-speed automatic transmission for both of those. Loaded with standard features, the Edge has a lot going for it in a crowded marketplace of excellent choices.

The minivan market is, despite all pronouncements otherwise, alive and well. The 2019 Toyota Sienna competes in a small segment that boasts some great options for families who need realistic, roomy transportation. Minivans offer huge amounts of interior room, plenty of seating for everyone, and lots of daily ergonomics that just can’t be found in a crossover or SUV. The 2019 Sienna is the only offering in the minivan segment with all-wheel drive. The Sienna also gets Amazon Alexa voice-assistant integration and Apple CarPlay this year. For the 2019 model year, the Sienna is offered in five trim levels with some ala carte and sub-trim packages to add onto those with more upgrades. The base level 2019 Sienna is well-outfitted while the SE adds some sport to the minivan’s ergonomics. Toyota also offers disability-ready mobility-enhanced options for the Sienna from the factory in the LE and XLE trim levels. With plenty of standard features, seating for up to eight, and lots of trim level options to choose from, the Sienna remains a solid choice in the minivan market despite its age.

Alongside – and in contrast to – the forward-looking Concept R18 shown by BMW Motorrad, the Garmisch pays homage to one of the industry's most influential automotive designers of the 1970s, Marcello Gandini.

The 2019 Lexus LX 570 combines two things not often matched well in the luxury sport utility market: true off-pavement capability and rich luxury. The LX 570 was introduced in its current form in 2008 and has held steadily to its place in luxury SUVs since. Based on the Toyota Land Cruiser, whose name is legendary in sport utility greatness globally, the LX 570 has its own credentials as a rugged SUV as well. The Nissan Frontier continues to sell well on the North American market despite all odds seeming to be against it. The reason is simple: the Frontier hits a formula that resonates with small pickup truck buyers. The 2019 MINI Countryman is the crossover version of the popular MINI Cooper franchise. With underpinnings based on the BMW X1 crossover, the Countryman offers four doors, a hatchback, and a lot more roominess than is standard in a MINI. Styling remains in line with the Cooper garage. The 2019 Countryman shines not only for its true crossover underpinnings (and the versatility that brings), but also for its upscale interior and well-done homage to the MINI heritage. There are some downsides to the largest of the MINIs, but they're not likely deal breakers for buyers in this segment who're looking for something more than the norm.

The Nissan Rogue was introduced in 2014 as an all-new model to compete in the fast-growing and now dominant small crossover-SUV segment. Since then, the Rogue has risen to become the best-selling Nissan model as well as the best-seller in the segment. The 2019 Nissan Rogue continues to be popular thanks to the Rogue's simple formula of offering comfort, safety, and versatility in an affordable package. The 2019 Rogue adds more advanced safety systems availability across the trim lineup, but otherwise remains as it was last year. Most of the downsides to the Nissan Rogue are not major concerns and haven't thwarted buyers from showing up in droves. That speaks to the importance of hitting the right marks with a vehicle's design.

The 2019 Nissan Murano is a two-row midsized crossover that holds an everyday price tag but manages to be a little more premium than that window sticker might suggest. In the world of midsized crossover-SUVs, there are a lot of options to choose from. Families can go with a three-row that seats seven or even eight people or a two-row that seats five. If this was Texas, where bigger is always better, the choice is obvious. The rest of us, though, put a little more thought into it. The Murano was restyled this year with an updated look and LED headlamps added as standard. The Murano stands out from the competitive crossover crowd for its unique design, quality interior, and spacious second row of seating. It’s a premium-feel crossover without the price tag associated with that.

The obvious opening line here is "Are you not entertained?". Clearly drawing from the movie of the same name as the new Jeep pickup truck, Hennessey went a step further (as they are wont to do) and shoved 1,000 horsepower into a Jeep Gladiator. The result is also predictable.

Michelin has teamed with General Motors to target a 2024 production goal for airless tires. The tires, called Uptis, will have several benefits over radial tubeless tires and will debut for testing on the Chevrolet Bolt electric car.

The F-150 is the benchmark for full-sized, half-ton pickup trucks today and is the segment’s highest seller. The Limited model is the top end of that truck’s trim spectrum, as the classiest and most luxurious of the lineup. The 2019 Ford F-150 Limited adds the powerful engine from the Raptor, but keeps the standard F-150 running gear otherwise. It’s as posh and well-heeled as a truck can be.

It may not be the flashiest or sexiest of the Mercedes lineup, but the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS has a lot of goodness to it. The big SUV is one of the largest and most usable of the three-row options from Mercedes and, although it’s now at the five year mark for its current design, it’s still very up to date.
