Vehicles in the luxury sport utility market are either very off-road capable or very comfortable on the road. One of the only model that offers the best of both worlds comes from Land Rover. The 2019 Land Rover Discovery is a big 3-row SUV that is comfortable to drive, extremely capable off the pavement, and highly posh. There are few reasons to dislike this vehicle.

The market for compact vehicles in the sedan segment is thinning as buyers look towards more versatility, but the argument for a well-executed small car can still be compelling. The Mazda3 has often set the tone on that front and this new iteration goes further, pushing back hard at crossovers in the process.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class was introduced in 2016 as the German automaker's entry into the luxury small crossover class. The GLC quickly set the standard for the segment, offering huge amounts of luxury, great looks, and solid driveability. The 2019 GLC comes with a lot of standard equipment, plenty of options beyond that, and lots of comfort. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC comes in four basic flavors, each differentiated by a powertrain choice. There is the base model 300, the AMG-upgraded 43, the super-tuned AMG 63, and the plug-in hybrid 350e. Most of these iterations can be had in the standard or the slightly smaller Coupe model. The 2019 GLC-Class is a small luxury crossover that seats up to five. There are several packages and options for upgrade once a trim level (powertrain) has been chosen. In all but the base model, all-wheel drive ("4Matic") is standard.

The Toyota RAV4 is one of the original and most successful compact crossovers on the market, and for the 2019 model year it's undergone a complete redesign. This fifth-generation RAV4 is now more capable than before, and we didn’t let a couple of minor downsides keep us from having fun with it.

A new study from global market research group Ipsos has found that most people surveyed, upon buying a new car, want to drive it themselves – most are disinterested in automated driving technologies. The Chevrolet Colorado is a capable, comfortable midsized pickup truck. With the ZR2 package, it becomes a strong off-road machine and the only small truck with dual locking differentials. Chevrolet then teamed up with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to add boron steel protection and gear to the Colorado ZR2 for this Bison package. It’s about as much hardcore off-road awesomeness as you can find. We had a blast with it!

Hyundai, eager to explore commercial trucking opportunities in the US, has debuted a hydrogen-powered Class 8 heavy truck, the HDC-6 Neptune Concept, and a green-energy refrigerated trailer, the HT Nitro ThermoTech Concept. Both are being shown at the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show.

When Chevrolet re-introduced the Blazer name last year, there followed a lot of use of the word "Camaro" in the hoopla. Chevy very much wanted to tie the Blazer in with the Camaro, style-wise, and has largely succeeded. The Blazer is a good-looking crossover, but a bit confusing as well.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque is the smallest vehicle in the Range Rover sport utility lineup. It’s a bit larger than the average compact SUV, but its still smaller than most midsize offerings. And for some reason, it’s also available as a convertible, for those who want that sort of thing. Most of all, though, the 2020 Evoque is a luxurious SUV that’s big on driving refinement. For the second generation 2020 Evoque, Land Rover brings a fully redesigned Evoque with new technologies and expectations. Those changes help address a few of the shortcomings of last year’s model, which included hesitant shifting and unsophisticated infotainment. Thankfully, the new upgrades will keep the Evoque’s excellent off-road credibility, great engine, and beautiful cabin design.

Lexus has updated the RC 350 with refreshed styling, a retuned suspension, and smartphone integration. The excellent interior Lexus is known for remains, but the RC does have flaws – it's a beautiful car that could stand some improvement.

Hyundai is starting a ride hailing service called BotRide, which will debut in Irvine, California on November 4, 2019. The service, which uses speciall outfitted Hyundai Kona Electric vehicles will provide free ride-sharing in Irvine as part of a pilot program to test autonomous vehicles and ride hailing.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association show is held in Las Vegas annually, and this year Nissan is hitting SEMA with its own one-two combos. The automaker has four performance models on display, including an all-out time attack.

Maersk has teamed with Trident Maritime Systems to create a 600 kWh container battery that can be placed on a container-hauling ship to provide power. The battery is now en route to be installed on the Maersk Cape Town container vessel.

McLaren has announced its new Elva roadster, an open-cockpit car in the tradition of Bruce McLaren’s sportscar racers from the 1960s. The vehicle has no glass, weighs less than any car the company has ever produced, and is quicker than the flagship Senna.

Toyota is adding all-wheel drive as a standalone option for both the Camry and the Avalon sedans. The AWD option will be offered in the North American market for the 2020-21 model years.

The Volkswagen Jetta in its new GLI package is a sport-centric sedan that doesn’t skimp on the Jetta’s overall goodness as a sedan. There are a few downers, but overall the Jetta GLI is an excellent sedan with a nice feel as a sporty option.

Audi revamped the S5 in 2018 and has reshuffled some options for the 2019 model year. Where the S5 really comes in, though, is in the sleek Sportback model, which takes the sport coupe and extends its fastback appeal greatly. We recently had a chance to put the car through its paces.

For the first time in its 106-year history, Aston Martin has unveiled a sport utility as its latest vehicle on offer. Called the DBX, its design began in 2015, with teases of its engine and interior being offered over the past year.

The seventh concept vehicle to be unveiled under the MEB platform for electric vehicles, Volkswagen's ID Space Vizzion “previews a potential production car” in a small crossover-SUV style. It seats four or five, and has a range of up to 300 miles (482 km) per charge.

The Colorado is Chevrolet's midsize truck, aiming towards a market that's grown quickly over the past few years. The small truck segment, long dominated by Toyota, has seen a resurgence and the Colorado (along with its GMC twin, the Canyon) has is a big part of that renewed interest. As far as midsize pickup trucks go, the Colorado is a solid entry in a busy market. It's capable, well-designed, and affordable for most buyers. The Chevrolet Colorado, reintroduced in 2015, has seen a few minor changes since then. For the 2019 model year, the Colorado gets more standard equipment, more options, and a hardcore off-road variant in the ZR2 Bison. The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado features two cab styles, two bed lengths, three engine choices (including a diesel) and five trim levels. Most of the trim levels can be upgraded with packages of options to suit the buyer.

General Motors has filed a lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles claiming that admissions made by former FCA executives to federal investigators show that FCA undermined the integrity of the collective bargaining process. The lawsuit, which claims substantial damages were incurred, relies heavily on testimony allegedly made by (now former) FCA executives who’ve pled guilty during an ongoing federal corruption probe.

Ford has debuted a documentary regarding the design and ideas behind the new Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. Including discussion of the name and how controversial it was internally. Well worth a few minutes to watch.

The new RAV4 unveiled last year as a fourth-generation for the compact crossover that started that market. Earlier this year, a TRD Off-Road model was unveiled to slot just above the also redone Adventure model. Now there is a new plug-in hybrid RAV4 called the RAV4 Prime. Toyota is billing it as a performance model with advanced all-wheel drive instead of pushing its PHEV status.
